2007 MiracleHome raises record amount for Batson

"I have always bought my ticket every year. It did not matter if I won; I knew it was going to a good cause," said Kay Armstrong as she stepped in her new home for the first time on August 18, 2007.

Armstrong is the lucky winner of the 2007 Batson Hospital MiracleHome. With her $100 entry, she won the 2,500 aquare foot, $340,000 house which was built by C & F Homes.

The evening of the house giveaway, Armstrong and her sister-in-law stopped by the MiracleHome to purchase a last minute ticket. However, to their dismay, they discovered that the final ticket had already been sold. Fortunately, Armstrong had already purchased her winning ticket "a while ago, right when they went on sale," so they decided to drive through the neighborhood to look at houses. That is when she heard her name announced on the radio as the winner of the Batson MiracleHome.

"I heard them call my name, bit I did not believe it was me." she said.

They immediately turned around and drove back to the house. A bewildered Armstrong walked in the front door to an enthusiastic crowd of volunteers and thunderous applause.

"It is really wonderful to have someone who has been so supportive of the Children's Hospital and of this project win the house. The 2007 MiracleHome was a tremendous success. We already are getting started on the next one," said Sidney Allen, MiracleHome project chair.

Construction has begun on the 2008 Batson Hospital MiracleHome, which is presented by Trustmark National Bank. This will be hte fifth installment of the MiracleHome project which was co-created by Friends and the Home Builders Association of Jackson. Mitchell Lewis has signed on to build the house. 6,000 tickets will be offered for $100 each.
